The Cercle de Bruges announced on Saturday the appointment of Bernd Storck as new coach. The 56-year-old German signed up until the end of the season. He succeeds Frenchman Fabien Mercadal, 47, with whom the club ended his collaboration "by mutual agreement" on Monday.
Bernd Stock is back in the Belgian championship. Last season, he managed to get Mouscron out of the danger zone, where the Hurlus were when he arrived in September, before making it one of the revelations of the second half of the championship.
The Cercle de Bruges is a red lantern with three points in ten days. The Brugge, who won only one game on August 24 against Waasland-Beveren, remain on a heavy 6-0 defeat against Zulte Waregem.
A former Bochum and Borussia Dortmund player, Storck was an assistant in Stuttgart, Hertha Berlin, Wolfsburg, Partizan and Dortmund before starting his career as head coach in Tsesna, Kazakhstan. He then led the Kazakh national team (2008-2010) and Hungary (2015-2017), which he qualified for Euro 2016, where the Hungarians were eliminated by Belgium in the round of 16 (4- 0).
"With Bernd Storck, we call on a great professional, perfectly in line with our vision of the project for the Circle," said managing director Oleg Petrov. "We are convinced that Bernd is the ideal coach today to allow the Club to achieve results and achieve goals."
Zulte Waregem - Cercle Brugge: Summary - Pro League - 10th Day - 05/10/2019 While this early evening had rewarded us with some nice gestures, it fell into a sweet madness in Zulte-Waregem. Faced with Brugeois completely overwhelmed by the challenge, the men of Franky Dury enjoyed themselves: two goals in the first half before going on to the second and scoring four more goals, including a double for Giannu Bruno, in very great shape. 6-0, set game and match for the Essevee, surprising 6th before Sunday's matches. Le Cercle, last in the ranking, is seriously worrying. Sport Newsletter
