Shafts of light shine down the narrow streets of the Panier district of Marseille, breaking through the dark gray sky. The tall buildings glow in the warm yellow, and as I wandered among the rustic boutiques that offer handmade jewelry and Provence paintings, the area takes in the magical air. After stepping off the street, I hear the piano in the upstairs apartment.
It's easy to think I could spend an entire weekend here in another French eclectic city in this optimum area, but it would be ecclesiastical.
